More than 700 students in Snow Hill start this school year in a brand new Greene Central High School, made possible thanks to players across North Carolina!

“You may not have won a jackpot – but you did help to build a high school.” shared Greene County Schools Superintendent Dr. Rodney McNeill, thanking “everyone here and beyond who has ever bought a scratch-off ticket.”
More than $50 million raised by the lottery helped cover construction of the new school through a needs-based grant. This is one of nine new schools in the state to open this school year using lottery-funded grants.
“It absolutely would not have been possible to do this without the grant,” McNeill said.
Replacing a 65-year-old building, the new school features 56 classrooms and labs for a safer, more interactive learning environment.
New dedicated spaces for Career and Technical Education (CTE) allow students to learn hands on the industries their local workforce, including health sciences, automotive technology, agriculture, robotics, culinary kitchens, and media.
“It is a symbol to the students of Greene County that they are deserving of a first-class facility as much as anyone else is,” said Principal Dr. Patrick Greene during a ribbon-cutting ceremony earlier this month.
In addition to school construction, lottery dollars also give four-year-olds a head start through NC Pre-K, help pay for school support staff and transportation, and support the Next NC Scholarship to make college more affordable for North Carolinians. Every ticket makes a difference to raise $1 billion a year for education.
